Our last article on the EA Sports FC scene was published exactly 50 days ago. Today, we’re resetting that counter. Back then, we wrote about YNG SKiLLZ, who were knocked out of the Summer Cup. Today’s topic will be a tournament of similar standing, though perhaps today’s is a little higher up the pecking order, as pre-season tournaments seem to carry more prestige than the so-called summer ones, held at the end of each EA Sports FC season.
Group stage
The first phase of the tournament is the group stage, which we know well. But this time it’s divided into three groups. There are 10 teams in each group. Our partner ended up in Group C, the last one. They faced teams such as The Pistons, Iron Ravens, Nexmorta Esports, Miami Esports, Golden Goats, Rooster Cannons, Hackers Esports, Sparta Zamlynie and another of our partners — The Bulls Team.
To progress to the next stage of the tournament, they ‘only’ needed to finish in the top two of their group. And that is exactly what our partner did. In the end, they finished in second place, three points behind the leaders. Seven wins, one draw and one defeat. They started the pre-season tournament on a high note, beating Sparta Zamlyne 6–2. This was followed by a 4–2 victory over Nexmorta Esports.
1 defeat, 1 draw and 7 wins
- 6–2 vs. Sparta Zamlyne (A)
- 4–2 vs. Nexmorta Esports (A.)
- 4–0 vs. Rooster Cannons (H.)
- 4–3 vs. Iron Ravens (A.)
- 1-2 vs. The Pistons (H.)
- 3-2 vs. The Bulls Team (A.)
- 3-0 vs. Hackers Esports (W.)
- 3-1 vs. Miami Esports (A.)
- 0-0 vs. Golden Goats (A.)
Phase Three, almost a ‘knockout’ stage
As you can see, a defeat against the team that ultimately finished top of Group C. It’s worth noting the 3-2 win over The Bulls Team, who were one of the best teams on the Polish scene last season. Could YNG SKiLLZ be the dark horse of the upcoming season? We certainly hope so, although a successful group stage is no guarantee of anything, and the real test came in the next phase...
- 1-0 vs. GSK Esport (W.)
- 1-2 vs. Illegal Esports (A.)
- 0-3 vs. The Pistons (A.)
- 2-5 vs. Impact Boys (A)
- 1-2 vs. Loco Villanos (H.)
In the final stage of the tournament, YNG SKiLLZ are in second-last place. Five matches played, one win and four defeats. Of course, this is only a pre-season tournament and we cannot draw any firm conclusions from such matches. However, that one win, against GSK Esport, is a fairly big positive. Perhaps next season YNG SKiLLZ will be like the Polish national team at one point. They will be able to play against stronger opponents, but will they struggle against the weaker ones?
