Some of our partners are already approaching the halfway point of the ESEA S54 regular season. POLteam, however, has only played four matches so far. We covered two of them in a recent article, which unfortunately saw them suffer two defeats. This week, however, things are quite different, which may well see our partner reach the play-offs, as ESEA Intermediate is a league where a record of around 8:6 or 9:5 is needed to qualify for the play-offs.
POLteam is bouncing back! vs back2back
One of the recent matches was against the Russian side back2back. This team is now in its third season in the Intermediate league, so they’re quite experienced at this level of competition. The match took place on Anubis, where the POLteam players started on the defending side. Winning the pistol round allowed them to take an early 3–0 lead. Their opponents, however, were in no hurry to respond, and we didn’t see a reply until the score was 5–0. This didn’t throw the leaders off their stride, though, and they added another five rounds to their tally. Right at the end of the first half, the opponents managed to pick up one more point, leaving the Poles leading 10–2.
In the second half, they had no intention of letting up. They won the pistol round, but their opponents’ force buy made it difficult for them to close out the match. Thanks to this, the opponents closed the gap on POLteam to 11–6. At that point, however, a turning point occurred and our team won the last two rounds, thus ending the match with a score of 13–6. This improved their record to 1–2, and they were now just one victory away from getting back on track.

Back to a level record? vs Veni Vidi Vici
POLteam were due to face Veni Vidi Vici in their most recent match. However, that team disbanded before the ESEA season even began, meaning POLteam won by walkover. As a result, they’ve returned to a 50-50 record, and their upcoming matches will be crucial for the rest of the season. If they manage to win these, team morale will rise and our partner will find it easier to win subsequent matches. If, however, the next matches are lost, we may find ourselves back in the situation we were in at the start of the season, having to work our way back to a better record.
