The main phase of the 56th ESEA Open season is reaching its decisive stage. Eight out of ten rounds are now behind us, which means there is virtually no margin for error. Every victory can pave the way for a better starting position ahead of the remaining matches. Conversely, every defeat could complicate matters in the final stretch. Our partners in the Open9 and Open10 divisions have had an intense few weeks full of extreme emotions… From painful defeats, through fierce battles, to confident and convincing victories. We take a look at how they fared in rounds 6–8 and what their records are as they enter the final stretch of the season.
Eight rounds down, and the margin for error is disappearing
After eight rounds of the ESEA Open regular season, the situation in the tables is beginning to take shape, and teams are slowly realising what they are actually playing for in the season’s closing stages. Some can afford to relax a little, whilst others have no room for further slip-ups. The point differences are often small, and form in recent weeks often proves crucial in the battle for the best possible seeding ahead of the next stage of the competition. For our partners, this is the moment of truth… Where the last two matches could determine whether the season will be remembered as a success or as a wasted opportunity.
TW E-sports (ESEA Open9)
TW E-sports have had a very solid run of form this season, which has only confirmed their ambitions. Though it hasn’t been without its setbacks… However, the team were able to learn from their mistakes quickly and get back on track. Going back to the fifth round, TW had to concede defeat to SeakAndDestroy, losing 11-13 on Ancient. It was a closely fought match in which the final result was decided by minor details. From the next series of matches onwards, however, TW E-sports embarked on a clear winning streak. In the sixth round, the team performed with much greater confidence, defeating Real Man Swallow Kebab 13:8, once again on the Ancient map.
The seventh round brought another valuable victory. This time, a 13-9 win against ONE OPS – WHITE on Nuke. On this demanding map, TW E-sports demonstrated patience and mature play, effectively closing out the decisive rounds. The eighth round, meanwhile, only served to confirm the team’s good form. A 13–5 win over GeorgeDroyd on Anubis was a display of dominance and a sign that TW E-sports had found their rhythm. Thus, a 6–2 record puts the team in a very strong position ahead of the final two matches of the regular season.
YNG SKiLLZ (ESEA Open10)
YNG SKiLLZ are still struggling with a very demanding season, and the recent rounds have not brought the long-awaited breakthrough. Round six ended in a clear 3–13 defeat against influence on the Ancient map. From the very first rounds, their opponents dictated the pace of the game, effectively limiting YNG SKiLLZ’s options and preventing them from finding their rhythm at any stage of the match. The seventh round, however, brought a momentary respite. YNG SKiLLZ added a victory to their tally… albeit a walkover against PFP_Gaming. Although such a result does not reflect the team’s actual form on the server, it allowed them to improve their record and catch their breath for a moment following earlier setbacks.
The eighth round, however, quickly dashed any hopes of turning the season around. On Mirage, YNG SKiLLZ had to concede defeat to Thunder Birds, losing 4–13. Once again, problems with maintaining a consistent performance were evident. Consequently, the opposition consistently capitalised on their opportunities. Meanwhile, after eight matches played, a 2–6 record puts YNG SKiLLZ in a very difficult position ahead of the final two rounds of the regular season. Every subsequent match will be not only a battle for points, but also for the best possible, honourable end to the season and an attempt to build positive foundations for the future.
Visionary
Visionary is one of those teams whose season in ESEA Open10 has been a rollercoaster, with results seeming to follow a repetitive pattern. Weaker moments are followed by better performances, yet the team still cannot stabilise their form for any length of time. Unfortunately, the sixth round got off to a poor start for Visionary. They conceded a walkover to BETAFROST, which automatically worsened their position in the table and forced the team to seek points in subsequent matches. The seventh round brought an improvement in their record, though once again without any competition on the server. This time, it was the Make-A-Wish Foundation who forfeited, allowing Visionary to claim a victory and partially make up for the losses following their earlier defeat. Although such results do not give a complete picture of the team’s form, they were significant in the context of the battle for positions in the table.
Round eight was finally an opportunity to showcase their form in a head-to-head clash, and Visionary made the most of it. A decisive 13-2 victory against ZERRO E_SPORTS on the Nuke map was a display of complete control over the course of the match. From the very first rounds, the difference was evident in both tactical preparation and the individual form of the players. Thus, after eight rounds played, Visionary have a 4–4 record, which places them roughly in the middle of the table. The last two matches of the regular season will be crucial and could determine whether the season ends with a positive record or whether the team once again gets stuck somewhere in the middle.
Carpathian Roja
Carpathian Roja have been in very inconsistent form in recent weeks, alternating solid performances with painful defeats. Round six, however, brought one of the most thrilling matches of their season so far. On Inferno, they fought a long and evenly matched battle against 20K Prem, which ended in a 15-19 defeat after several overtime rounds. It was a match in which the final result was decided by individual rounds, and minor mistakes cost the team valuable points. The seventh round, however, provided a decisive response. On the Mirage map, Carpathian Roja confidently defeated Bangs Broskis 13-5, displaying far superior game organisation and effectiveness at crucial moments. For the most part, the match was under Carpathian’s complete control. They consistently built up their lead and did not allow their opponents to mount a challenge.
The eighth round, however, proved less successful once again. The return to Inferno ended in a 5–13 defeat against -ArcticLions-. This time, Carpathian Roja were unable to maintain the intensity seen in their previous victory. Their opponents, on the other hand, made effective use of their opportunities, gradually extending their lead. After eight rounds played, a 4–4 record means Carpathian Roja still has everything in their own hands, but the last two matches of the regular season will be a real test. The end of the season will not forgive any further slip-ups, and consistency will be key in the fight for the best possible finish.
PEST Esport
PEST Esport has displayed consistent and mature form since the start of the season, regularly confirming its place among the very best. The team scores consistently and manages to keep its cool even in the toughest moments. This, in turn, translates into a very solid record after eight rounds. Matchday seven brought an important 13-11 victory against Niespełnione Talenty on Dust 2. The match was evenly balanced and went point for point for a long time, but in the decisive rounds, PEST showed greater patience and better endgame management.
The eighth round, however, ended in defeat, though it was by no means a one-sided affair. Once again on Dust 2, PEST lost to GADDAR ESPORT 10–13, with the final result decided by individual rounds. Despite the setback, the team did not lose confidence and maintained their place at the top of the table. After eight matches played, the 6–2 record looks very promising and puts PEST Esport in a comfortable position ahead of the final stages of the regular season. The last two matches can only confirm their strong form and allow them to close out this stage of the season on a high note, which bodes well for the rest of the competition.
ESEA Open enters its decisive phase
The final two rounds of the regular season will be the moment when there is no longer any room for calculations or adjustments. For some teams, this is a chance to cement their position and finish the league stage with peace of mind. For others, however, this is the last chance to turn the season around and leave the best possible impression. The standings after eight rounds clearly show how small the differences are and how much a single match can change. Decisive matches lie ahead, which will determine the league table and the mood ahead of the rest of the competition.
