The Army League has now reached the halfway point of the regular season. As a result, the favourites to be promoted to the higher divisions are slowly emerging. One such team is SLAKE; after five matches, they have a record of 4 wins and 1 defeat, having lost only to another of our partners – the Hussars.
How did SLAKE fare in their recent matches?
Their last two matches were against Prime Bulls and POLteam. Starting with the first one, it was a real rollercoaster. It began innocently enough, with SLAKE taking the first two rounds. However, they didn’t stop there and added three more, taking a 5-0 lead. That’s when their opponents woke up, winning three rounds, though it wasn’t enough to draw level. Instead, SLAKE seized the opportunity to win three more rounds and finish the first half with a solid 8-4 lead.
In the second half, we saw SLAKE win the pistol round again, and with the score at 10-4, they looked set to finish the match comfortably. However, their opponents were not going to let that happen, winning three rounds in a row to bring the score to 7-10. Our partner responded with a single win, which only gave the Bulls more energy; by the 22nd round, they had levelled the score at 11:11. They didn’t stop there and earned one chance to win the match without going to overtime. However, they failed to capitalise on this opportunity, and we went into overtime.
There, SLAKE got off to a flying start, winning all the rounds on the attacking side, which is the more difficult side on the de_nuke map. It seemed that the outcome of this match was merely a formality, as all they needed was a single round on the defending (easier) side. They failed to capitalise on the first two. The same happened with the third, and we went into the second overtime.
There, however, the Bulls started with a strong first half, after which they took the lead 17:16. After the sides switched, we saw a round-for-round exchange. Thus, just as in regular time, Prime Bulls had one chance to secure victory. This, just as in regular time, went unused, and we saw the third set of overtime rounds.
In this period, once again after the first three rounds, the opponents took the lead 20–19. We saw the same pattern of rounds as in the previous half, and the opponents had one chance to win. Just as in the previous half, they failed to capitalise on this chance, so we went into the fourth overtime period.
In this round, however, we saw our partner dominate, winning all the rounds of the first part of the tie-break and securing three match points. The first was not converted, but the second was, ending the match after 47 rounds with a score of 25:22.

To make things interesting, our partner had another match to play immediately after this one. In that match, however, we didn’t see any overtime. We didn’t see a single round of overtime because the opponents didn’t show up for the match, allowing SLAKE to add an easy victory to their record.
