SLAKE had been looking for a fifth player to fill the crucial role of In-Game Leader for some time. On 3 February, it was announced that EyeSnetts would be joining the squad. Yesterday, they made their debut with the new line-up in the ESEA Intermediate league.
SLAKE’s position in the ESEA ahead of yesterday’s matches
The SLAKE team is performing reasonably well in the ESEA Intermediate league. Going into yesterday’s matches, they had a 3:3 record, which, compared to teams such as Armitra (2:4), is a really good result. The first match was against the Finnish side Mind Benders, and the second against Back2back Gaming.
The battle for a 5:3 record
SLAKE Team got off to a flying start in their first match. A 3:0 lead gave them a breather, especially as their opponents played the fourth round in economic mode. However, our team choked on that breathing space and the opponents managed to turn the tide.
This comeback levelled the score at 3–3, and SLAKE began to face economic difficulties. The Mind Benders had no intention of relinquishing control in this half, and it was they who soon took a 3-point lead. However, this lead did not increase by the end of the half, and we saw the score at 7–5 in favour of the Finns.
The second half provided even more excitement, as SLAKE won the pistol round, levelling the score at 7–7. They had no intention of letting up, however, and the score soon stood at 11–8. That lead, however, evaporated shortly afterwards, and it was our team that had to play catch-up at 11–12.
They managed to do so, and we went into extra time. There, however, a completely different story unfolded, as the SLAKE team completely dominated their opponents, and it was they who won the match 16–12.
What about the second match?
The second match, which was due to take place that day, was forfeited by our opponents. Perhaps they’d been watching the one played by Mind Benders, because after a shot like that, I’d have thrown in the towel myself:
