SLAKE’s strategic triumph – promotion above all else

Precision, ambition and a turning point in Army Rising

In the world of Counter-Strike 2, teams relying solely on individual talent are winning less and less often. Strategy, adaptability and the ability to make wise decisions at the right moments are becoming key. SLAKE, a Polish team making its way up the competitive ladder, demonstrated in the Arrmy Rising play-offs that true success lies in combining all these elements. Their journey through the tournament was not only marked by victory in the quarter-finals, but also served as an example that sometimes you have to give up on continuing the fight in order to win something bigger.

A difficult start and a battle for every point

The quarter-final was a real test of SLAKE’s character and mental resilience. The Poles’ opponents were HUSSARS, who are also our partners. The match was played in a BO3 format, with each map presenting a completely different set of challenges.

The first clash took place on Mirage, where HUSSARS dictated the pace from the outset. SLAKE struggled to get a feel for their opponents’ rhythm, and several crucial rounds slipped through their fingers. Despite ambitious attempts to make up the deficit, the map ended 11–13, which put SLAKE with their backs against the wall and forced them to react immediately.

Back in the game thanks to an adjustment

The second map – Ancient – was a completely different story. SLAKE changed their defensive set-up, rotated more flexibly and aggressively took control of key areas of the map. -kemot- stood out in particular, saving his team on several occasions and showing incredible composure. wazak, for his part, was responsible for opening rounds quickly, often eliminating the first opponent with a lightning-fast entry. After a closely fought finish, Ancient ended in a 13–11 victory, levelling the series.

A nail-biting finish to decide who goes through

The decisive map – Train – was incredibly evenly matched right from the start. Both teams displayed a high level of concentration and did not allow their opponents to build a clear lead. SLAKE played with great discipline on defence, effectively preventing HUSSARS from capturing key points on the map. On offence, however, they focused on patiently playing out rounds and capitalising on their opponents’ mistakes.

Throughout the map, the score hovered around a draw on several occasions, which only served to heighten the tension of the clash. The rounds right at the very end proved decisive, with SLAKE demonstrating greater composure and a better ability to handle the pressure. The team managed to effectively seal off key areas of the map and consistently apply pressure on their opponents’ weaker defensive points.

The final score of 16–14 in SLAKE’s favour secured their place in the semi-finals and sent a clear signal that the team can fight to the very end, even in the most demanding matches. The series ended 2–1, and this victory was one of the most significant moments on their journey to the Arrma elite.

This quarter-final showcased not only the team’s firepower, but above all their character and ability to adapt under pressure – which is crucial on the path to the highest level of competition.

Strategic decision over ambition

In the semi-finals, SLAKE were due to face another tough opponent, but they decided to forfeit the match. Whilst this may have come as a surprise to fans at first glance, it was in fact a well-considered and strategic decision. The team had already secured promotion to Arrmy Masters – the top league in Arrmy – which was their main objective for the season. Rather than risk fatigue and potential setbacks to their further development, they decided to focus on their priorities.

What’s more, on the very same day, they played two crucial matches in the ESEA league, which were of great importance for their future development. (You can find a link to the article about these matches here).

Success built with a clear head

Although SLAKE’s run in the playoffs ended at the semi-final stage, their campaign in Arrmy Rising was a success. The team not only demonstrated excellent form but also maturity in their decision-making, prioritising long-term development over short-term trophies. Qualifying for Arrmy Masters opens up new opportunities for them and makes them one of the most interesting teams to watch in the coming seasons.
