Although the Vandals fought ambitiously and won several rounds thanks to some brilliant individual plays, ultimately their opponents proved more effective. The match ended 8–13, and the Vandals players had to accept defeat in their opening match of the tournament. This day was meant to be an opportunity for the team to rebuild their morale after their first defeat. However, no one expected that it would be these very matches that would cause the greatest upheaval in the tournament’s history to date.
Both matches ended in walkover victories for the Vandals, as their opponents failed to appear on the server at the scheduled time. The problem was that — as some players claimed — the result was to be reported just one minute after the permitted grace period had expired.
A heated debate immediately erupted online. Some fans defended the Vandals, pointing out that the rules are clear and the team had simply taken advantage of them. Others accused them of a lack of sportsmanship and being overly scrupulous. The team itself did not engage in the controversy, issuing only a brief statement that they were “playing in accordance with the tournament rules and focusing on their upcoming matches”.
Regardless of opinion, the facts are indisputable: after three rounds, Vandals Clan had a 2–1 record and had significantly improved their position in Group A.
