Constrict’s form has been a bit hit-and-miss of late. Failing to qualify for Army Rising was certainly a disappointment, but reaching the Galaxy Cup play-offs – having beaten, amongst others, ex-Pandemonium along the way – was a considerable success. Now, in the Amateur Server League, they’re doing brilliantly and, following Monday’s match, have already secured their place in the final of this tournament.
The semi-final – Constrict Gaming vs Misstakes
Their opponents in the semi-final turned out to be Misstakes, a team that had also stormed through their previous matches. We started with our partner’s map pick – de_inferno. The pistol round went to our opponents, but Constrict decided to go for a force buy. However, it didn’t go to plan and they found themselves trailing 0–3. They managed to win the first round, but Misstakes immediately added to their tally, taking a 4–1 lead. We saw the same back-and-forth again, after which the opponents won the round, leading 6–2. Despite this, our partner didn’t give up and went on such a good run that it brought them level at 6–6 by the end of the first half.
Constrict Gaming went into the second half a round ahead, but the opponents decided to go for a force, which proved successful this time. This prompted a force of their own from our partner’s team, which was also successful. With the score at 8–8, the opponents took matters into their own hands, taking a 10–8 lead. Constrict responded in kind, but with redoubled vigour, ultimately winning the map 13–10.

13–10 Misstakes
The second map, this time selected by Misstakes, was de_ancient. Here, once again, our partner’s opponents got off to a flying start, immediately taking a 3–0 lead thanks to a successful Anti-Force. From that point on, however, Constrict took control, levelling the score at 3–3. The opponents responded with a single round, but that didn’t stop the “snakes” from going on a run. This run began with the score at 3–4 and continued until the end of the first half, which finished 8–4.
The second half got off to a very good start for our partner, who, after just three rounds, were two rounds away from closing out the map and the entire match. They didn’t manage it straight away, as the opponents tried to fight back, narrowing the gap at one point to 7–11, but Constrict Gaming remained in control throughout, finishing the match 13–7 and winning the series 2–0.
