The Galaxy Cup is a truly prestigious tournament; making it through to the play-offs is a testament to a team’s high standard. Many of our partners are competing in this tournament. One of them is Firewolf Clan, who are struggling to progress from the group stage. We recently reported on their drop into the last-chance bracket, and now, unfortunately, we know that our partner will not be joining those competing in the play-offs.
First match in the last-chance bracket – Firewolf Clan vs Armitra
In the semi-finals of the last-chance bracket, two of our partners faced off: Armitra and Firewolf Clan. The former were the clear favourites, but the BO1 format can throw up surprises. It began with Armitra taking a 3–0 lead, as Firewolf Clan made an unsuccessful attempt at a force. However, the Wolves then began their comeback, which ultimately fell short as they only managed to close the gap to 2–3. Armitra capitalised on this and extended their lead to 5–2. From that point on, the Clan pulled themselves together again and this time even managed to take a 6–5 lead. Armitra, however, wouldn’t let them go into the half-time break ahead, and we ended it at 6–6.
In the second half, the Wolves started with a dominant run that saw them lead 10–6. The opposition responded with just one round, before the teams traded rounds to bring the score to 11–8. From that point on, Firewolf Clan finished the job and won the match 13–8. They thus advanced to the final of the last-chance bracket, where they faced off against Problem Od Tyłu.

The do-or-die match – Firewolf Clan vs Problem Od Tyłu
Their final opponent in the group stage turned out to be Problem Od Tyłu. Firewolf Clan had recently faced this very team during the Arrmy Open season. They had suffered a 14–16 defeat there, and now had the perfect opportunity to bounce back from that loss. The map turned out to be de_anubis. Things got off to a flying start for our partner. Winning the pistol round and the first full round gave them a 4:0 lead. After that, however, their opponents set about making up the deficit and almost managed to draw level, but fell one round short. Unfortunately, Firewolf Clan couldn’t enjoy their lead for long, as it was snatched away in the 10th round, when the score stood at 5–5. The rivals split the remaining two rounds of the first half evenly, and the half ended with a score of 6–6.
The second half began with the opponents winning the pistol round. The force buy attempted by our team failed, and Problem Od Tyłu started the second half with an 8–6 lead. Although the force buy failed, the eco round was successful, bringing the score to 8–7. However, the opponents also responded with a won eco round. After further twists and turns, Firewolf Clan finally managed to level the score at 9–9. They even took the lead, but this was immediately cancelled out to bring the score back to a draw. Once again, the score seesawed, resulting in an 11–11 tie. The opponents managed to secure the only match point available in normal time, but they failed to capitalise on it, meaning the winner had to be decided in extra time.
The first half of extra time ended 14–13 in favour of Problem Od Tyłu. In the second half, our partner immediately managed to equalise, bringing the score back to 14–14. The next two rounds could have gone either way, but this time they went in our opponents’ favour, and Firewolf Clan ended their run in the 3rd edition of the Galaxy Cup with a 13–16 defeat in the decider.

Although this is yet another of our partners bidding farewell to this tournament, the lads can be proud of themselves, as they’ve come a long way. Perhaps in the next edition, following some changes to the line-up, they’ll even manage to make it into the top three. We certainly wish them all the best.
