Another edition of the Lunacy Cup is now behind us, and this time it was Gloris eSports who claimed the title. From the very start of the tournament, the team displayed consistent and effective play, which ultimately enabled them to finish the competition as champions. Interestingly, the team did not start the competition in the first stage… Their journey began in Stage 2, where they fought for a place in the knockout stage.
In the second stage of the tournament, Gloris eSports finished with a 2–1 record, which was enough to secure their place in the play-offs. We have already covered this part of the tournament in more detail in one of our previous articles on the Lunacy Cup. Therefore, this time we will focus primarily on the decisive phase of the competition. It was there that the team demonstrated their full potential, eliminating successive opponents without losing a single map.
However, the road to the trophy was by no means an easy one. In the play-offs, Gloris faced both well-known organisations and teams that had caused problems for their rivals in earlier stages. Despite this, the team consistently stuck to their plan and, step by step, moved closer to the grand final.
Gloris eSports’ confident march through the play-offs
Having advanced to the knockout stage with a 2–1 record, Gloris eSports faced the most crucial stage of the entire Lunacy Cup. From the start of the play-offs, the team displayed very consistent form and quickly showed that they were determined to fight for the ultimate victory. In the quarter-finals, the team’s opponent was Lunacy Gaming. Although I was unable to find the exact scores for each map, it is known that the series ended in a confident 2–0 victory for Gloris. The team controlled the flow of the game for the majority of the match and did not allow their opponents to seize the initiative.
The semi-final against Husaria Esports followed a similar pattern. Once again, Gloris did not drop a single map, closing out the series 2–0. Two consecutive victories without any major difficulties saw the team advance to the grand final with great confidence. Significantly, throughout the entire play-off phase, the team did not concede a single map to their opponents. The manner of these victories clearly suggested that Gloris are in excellent form and may well be ready to claim another tournament trophy.
The Grand Final against Galaxy E-Sport
In the decisive clash of the Lunacy Cup, Gloris eSports faced Galaxy E-Sport. The series began on Mirage, and from the very first rounds it was clear that Gloris had got off to a flying start. The team capitalised effectively on their opportunities, maintained a good pace of play and gradually built up a lead over their opponents. Galaxy tried to respond with the odd round, but for the majority of the map it was Gloris who controlled the flow of the match. Good organisation and a composed performance at crucial moments allowed the team to secure a 13–8 victory and take a 1–0 lead in the series.
The second map of the final was played on Dust 2. Following a successful performance on Mirage, the Gloris players entered the server brimming with confidence and sought to impose their own style of play from the outset. Galaxy E-Sport managed to keep the score close at times, but Gloris held the upper hand for the greater part of the match. In the closing stages of the map, the team maintained their focus and effectively closed out round after round, preventing their opponents from turning the match around. Dust 2 ended with a score of 13–9, sealing Gloris eSports’ victory in the grand final and securing the team’s triumph in the Lunacy Cup as a whole.
Another significant success for Gloris eSports
The victory in the Lunacy Cup marks another very solid performance for Gloris eSports and confirms that the team is well-suited to online tournaments. Particularly impressive is the fact that the team went through the entire play-off phase without losing a single map, confidently eliminating their opponents one by one.
Their strong form was already evident during Stage 2. However, it was only in the play-offs that the team’s full potential was revealed. Victories over Lunacy Gaming, Husaria Esports and Galaxy E-Sport meant that Gloris finished the tournament in a thoroughly deserved manner. If the team maintains a similar standard in future competitions, they may well find themselves in the finals of similar tournaments on more than one occasion and compete for further trophies.
