I recently covered Nexium POLteam’s start to the ESEA Intermediate season. They performed very well back then, winning two matches and bringing their record back to 2-2 (more HERE). Now, however, we know how the rest of the season has unfolded, and things are looking quite interesting.
A typical Polish-Russian clash – Nexium POLteam vs -27X
The first match we’ll be looking at today is against the Russian side -27X. This team is now in its fifth season in the Intermediate league, and in the meantime they have managed to promote to the Main league, so they are no easy opponent. The map we saw in this match was Overpass, a new addition to the map pool, which POLteam may well want to play frequently. They started this match on the attacking side.
However, the pistol round did not go their way, and it was their rivals who took an early 2-0 lead. The response, however, was almost instantaneous, and by the 4th round we were already seeing a 2-2 draw. They even managed to take the lead, but this was quickly cancelled out to bring the score back to a draw. Their opponents managed to take the lead, but once again the response came. This time, however, we did not see a draw, and this gave the Russians the motivation to push hard in the closing stages of the half, resulting in them leading 7-5.
The start of the second half saw POLteam draw level, and it seemed they might still win it. Especially as, after the sides switched, they were playing on the defensive side, which is still generally considered the easier one on this map. We saw them take the lead too, but it was immediately cancelled out. The score was tied at 8-8, making it a crucial round for both sides. Our partner secured that round, but they failed to build a lead of more than a single point, which was immediately cancelled out to make it 9-9. The following rounds, unfortunately, saw nothing but Russian dominance, which ended in a 9-13 defeat for the Poles. Unfortunately, this leaves POLteam with a 2-3 record.
A chance to return to a 3:3 record – Nexium POLteam vs N2
A chance to bounce back from defeat only after 6 days. This time, our partner’s opponent was an international team called N2. It was their debut in the Intermediate league and they went into this match with a 2:4 record. The map was Mirage. There’s no point in describing this match in detail, as our partner simply ran rings around their opponents and won 13-2. Special mention must go to Pasia. In this match, he racked up 26 kills and just 3 deaths. This is a truly impressive result, and it is certain that without him, the match would not have gone so smoothly for our partner.
