The 53rd ESEA season has begun, and with it a new division – ESEA Entry – has made its debut. It is this division that POLteam has qualified for. The team has already played its first matches, which give us a taste of what we can expect from them later in the season. What is the new division like, and how did the POLteam players fare in their opening matches?
POLteam’s first matches in ESEA Entry

POLteam’s first matches of the new ESEA season are now behind us, specifically in the newly formed Entry division, which is intended to serve as a stepping stone for teams aspiring to higher levels of competition. The Polish team’s debut in this division proved to be a mixed affair – whilst the first result was a victory, the real test came in the next match.
The first clash, against PLATA Team, ended in a 1–0 technical victory for POLteam – their opponents failed to field a full squad and did not turn up ready to play. Whilst every win is welcome, it is difficult to feel satisfied when the result is not the outcome of genuine competition. Such an outcome feels more like a false start for the entire league than an actual season opener.
The real test came in the second match – POLteam’s opponents were Questionmark, and the Ancient map quickly revealed who was in control of the match. The match ended 13–1 in favour of the opponents, and their dominance was evident from the very first minutes. After a one-sided first half, which ended 11–1, the chances of a comeback were slim. POLteam failed to regroup mentally or tactically, and losing the pistol round at the start of the second half merely sealed their fate.
It must be said that their rivals dominated in virtually every aspect – whether in terms of communication, map control or effectiveness in one-on-one duels. The POLteam players looked lost and, at times, too passive, as if they lacked a clear game plan or the ability to adapt quickly to their opponents’ style.
Despite a disappointing start, the season is only just beginning. POLteam certainly has plenty of room for improvement, but also plenty of time to rebuild. There are many rounds ahead of them that could turn their position in the table around and showcase the team’s true potential.
The key, however, will be to learn from this defeat. Such a clear defeat could act as a wake-up call – spurring them on to train harder, analyse their own mistakes and, above all, refine their tactics. If the players approach this challenge with the right mindset, they have a chance of making a successful comeback and even fighting for promotion to a higher division.
What exactly is ESEA Entry?
ESEA Entry is a new division within the ESEA competition structure, designed as a venue for competition between teams of a similar skill level. This ensures more evenly matched and predictable matches, which helps teams develop and allows them to focus on gradually improving the quality of their play.
ESEA Open, on the other hand, is a completely open division – available to everyone, regardless of skill level or experience. In practice, this means a wide range of skill levels amongst teams, which can lead to uneven matches – ranging from easy victories to one-sided defeats. Whilst the Open offers a greater variety of opponents, the Entry division provides a more stable and balanced environment for regular competition.
The first matches may not always reflect a team’s true level – a walkover victory against PLATA Team does not give the full picture, whilst a one-sided 13:1 defeat against Questionmark showed just how much work the players still have ahead of them. Every match, regardless of the result, presents an opportunity to learn lessons and refine tactics and communication.
At this stage of the season, nothing is decided yet. POLteam has the chance to prove that they can not only win on technical merit, but also hold their own against more experienced opponents. Fans will certainly be following their upcoming performances with interest – the only question is whether the team will be able to cope with the pressure and make the most of the opportunities ahead.
