The regular season of the 53rd ESEA season is drawing to a close, and this is the perfect time to take a look at how our partners have fared. This time, we’re focusing on the Open division, where three teams competed: Venom Vipers and the Gloris eSport and Young Stars academies. Who made it through to the play-offs, and who had to concede defeat to their rivals this time round?

The Gloris eSport Academy had a difficult season, finishing the regular season with a record of 4–10. Although they managed to find their rhythm somewhat in the middle of the season, recording four consecutive wins, this was unfortunately not enough to keep their play-off hopes alive, especially as they forfeited their last four matches.

Venom Vipers finished the regular season with a 4–7 record, having played just 11 of their scheduled 14 matches. Although they got off to a promising start, with wins over DPL and ChGGaming amongst others, the second half of the season saw a marked dip in form and as many as four walkovers towards the end.
A lack of full squad availability and inconsistent results meant the Vipers were unable to join the race for the play-offs. The team showed flashes of solid play, but overall the season can be considered unfinished, and a sense of disappointment certainly remains.

Young Stars Academy can count the regular season as a success, finishing with a 9–5 record, which earned them a well-deserved place in the play-offs. The team displayed solid form throughout the season, recording victories over KLGeSports, Bobki esports and CLUB 88, amongst others. Their nail-biting match against PIJEM BAWIM SIE, which ended 22:20, was also a standout performance.
Although they did experience a few setbacks, overall Young Stars AC showed that they are capable of playing at a high level and have deservedly progressed to the next stage of the competition.
It’s been a mixed season for our partners in the ESEA Open. Young Stars AC confidently secured their place in the play-offs and showed that they have real potential. Venom Vipers and Gloris eSport AC, despite the odd flash of brilliance, ended the season on a low note; walkovers and a lack of consistent form took their toll.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for Young Stars as they progress through the tournament, and we wish the other teams a swift return to form. ESEA doesn’t forgive mistakes, but every season brings a new chance to come back stronger.
