The main phase of Arrma’s 12th season is slowly drawing to a close. Many teams have already completed their 10 rounds, but some, including SLAKE, still have a few matches left to play. In the case of the team we’re discussing today, there’s just one match left, but all the signs suggest that qualification for the play-offs is almost certain.
How did SLAKE fare in the final stages of the first stage of Arrmy Rising?
- montarzufka 0–1 SLAKE, walkover
- SLAKE 13:8 ATP, Anubis
- misiepysie 3:13 SLAKE, Anubis
- SLAKE 1:0 Retrogradacja Jowisza, walkover
Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), SLAKE’s two scheduled matches did not take place. Although this had a negative impact on the round record, it’s the final result that counts – a win is a win. Fortunately, the team had the opportunity to prove their worth in the two matches they did play, in which they showed their class and secured confident victories.
The first opponent was ATP, who managed to put up a fight at times but ultimately failed to pose a threat to SLAKE. The 13–8 result on the Anubis map speaks for itself – the opponents tried to fight back, winning a few key rounds, but it was SLAKE who controlled the match from start to finish. Solid defensive play and well-coordinated attacks allowed them to maintain their lead, even as ATP tried to get back into the game.
The ‘misiepysie’, on the other hand, had nothing left to offer against a SLAKE side in full flow. The match was one-sided from the very start – aggressive serves, quick rotations and excellent use of the utility player meant that their opponents were unable to put up a proper fight. The 3:13 scoreline is testament to SLAKE’s near-perfect performance and absolute dominance; they consistently capitalised on every mistake their opponents made and didn’t let them catch their breath.
Looking at SLAKE’s performances in the Arrmy League so far, it’s hard not to notice how comfortable they are on Anubis. Although this map evokes mixed feelings – even amongst professional players – for SLAKE it is a real asset. If they maintain this form, they may well surprise more than a few in the next stages of the competition.
SLAKE’s final hurdle – who will stand in their way?
- Sunday, 23 March, 20:30, skype
This Sunday, SLAKE will face their final opponent in the group stage – the skype team. But will this match actually go ahead? All the signs suggest their opponents will fight to the very end, as their position in the table is precarious. With a negative round record and just five wins, to stand any chance of making the play-offs, they would need to beat SLAKE without dropping a single round and hope that the team without a home advantage loses.
However, if this scenario does not materialise, SLAKE are almost certain of a place on the podium in the regular season. With just one defeat all season, they will finish at least second, which puts them in an excellent position ahead of the next stage of the competition.
