The Hussars, with their new line-up, are playing their matches in the ESEA Main league. As the second-highest tier, the league offers unforgettable thrills, but it has a high barrier to entry and an equally high threshold for staying up. The Hussars’ goal for this season is certainly to avoid relegation.
A poor start in a strong league
Our partner’s first match was against AllInners, who, at the time of the match, were ranked 150th in the world according to HLTV. We expected a tough match, but it turned out to be a one-sided affair. After the first 8 rounds, the score stood at 8–0 to AllInners. However, the Hussars managed to win two rounds, and the half ended 2–10. In the second half, any attempt at a comeback following a pistol round win was quashed, and the match ended 5–13.
Next up, the Hussars faced the Wolves, a team that has been in the Main League for five seasons now. This wasn’t an easy match either. After the first five rounds, the score stood at 1–4 and our team should have been able to get back into the match, but this didn’t happen and after 12 rounds the score was 1–11. Despite an attempt to stage a comeback by winning the pistol round, we were unable to do so and the match ended 6–13. The Hussars thus finished the first week with a record of 0–2.
A continuation of the losing streak?
The Hussars’ next match was due to be against Enterprise Gen, but this fixture did not take place due to the opposing team disbanding, and our partner recorded their first victory of the season.
However, the match against Snogard Dragons did go ahead and proved to be a very closely fought contest. Despite the Hussars taking an early 3–0 lead, the opponents fought back after a while to level the score at 3–3. Later, however, the Hussars dominated that half, and by half-time the score stood at 8–4. Even so, the second half was no walk in the park, as after our opponents won the face-off, the score was soon tied at 8–8. The Snogard Dragons had no intention of letting up and took a two-point lead. Right up until the end of the match, we saw a back-and-forth exchange of points, but ultimately it was the Hussars who came out on top, winning 13–11.
Which way will the 2–2 record go?
After some thrilling matches, the Hussars found themselves level at 2–2. The 9eRs, their next opponents, had the chance to tip the balance in either direction. The first half, in which the Hussars led 5–0, ended 7–5. The second half, however, saw even greater dominance from our opponents, who ended the match with a score of 13–8.
The next opponent offered virtually no resistance, and the Hussars won that match 13–5. In contrast to that opponent was LanPartyHotel, who put up considerable resistance – something the first half did not suggest, as it ended 9–3 in favour of our partner. In the second half, however, we saw the score level at 10–10. At that point, the Hussars woke up and went on to win the match 13–10.
What will the Hussars do with a 5–2 record?
So far, our partner has managed to play one more match on Infernal Void. This match, which was largely uneventful, was dominated by the opposition, ending 13–2. Finishing the first half of the season with a 5–3 record is a good result, which bodes well for the rest of the season.
