SLAKE are competing in the Intermediate division of this season’s ESEA. They’re doing well and have already secured their place in the division. Nevertheless, they want to fight for a place in the play-offs and perhaps promotion to the Main league. For now, however, they need to keep winning matches, which has been a bit of a mixed bag for them recently.
The battle for the play-offs
They played their first match against the Russian side VAKSA on the Ancient map. However, the match did not go their way. The pistol round and the round that followed went to the Russian team, putting them 2–0 ahead. In the next round, the Poles managed to win a single round, but it wasn’t enough to halt VAKSA’s run, which saw them stretch their lead to 8–1. Thanks to SLAKE winning one more round, the half ended with a score of 9–3.
This time, the pistol round went to SLAKE, bringing the score to 9–5. The next two rounds also went to the Polish side, but their opponents broke that four-round run and responded in kind, closing out the match with a 13:7 victory.
Their opponents in the second match were the French team PaidActors, although this time the match took place on Anubis. SLAKE started on the attacking side, which is the easier side on this map. SLAKE won the first two rounds; the opponents managed only one, which did little to halt the Poles’ run. They only brought this run to an end when the score reached 7–1. It was then that the opponents took the initiative for a couple of rounds, and the first half ended 8–4 in the Poles’ favour.
In the second half, the opponents made it clear from the outset that they had no intention of giving up in this match. They won the first three rounds and were on the verge of levelling the score. However, SLAKE prevented this, and after winning a round, the score stood at 9–7. Despite everything, the opponents didn’t give up, and after two rounds we were facing an inevitable draw. From that moment on, we witnessed a battle of nerves that led to a score of 11–11. This round decided the entire match, as neither side would have had enough money to buy a full set of kit if they’d lost. SLAKE won this crucial round, and it was they who celebrated the victory and a final score of 7–5.
