Unfortunately, more and more of our partners are finding themselves in the last-chance brackets of their groups. We’ve previously written about Armitra, amongst others, and now SLAKE are joining this unenviable group. This is their first edition of the tournament and they’re keen to put their best foot forward.
The first match, which should have been won
SLAKE’s first match, whilst still in the undefeated bracket, was against Katixy, a relatively unknown team. It started very well, with a win in the pistol round followed immediately by an anti-eco, giving our partner a 2:0 lead. However, they didn’t stop there and went on a devastating run that only ended when the score reached 6:0 in their favour. Despite SLAKE adding another point to their tally after the first round, major problems began to arise. Katixy started to fight back, and by the end of the first half the score stood at 8–4 in our partner’s favour.
The second half didn’t get off to a great start, however. A lost pistol round and a force play, which they’d hoped would catch the opponents off guard, gave the opponents a point to bring the score to 8–7. The Katixy didn’t waste such a perfect opportunity to equalise, and by the 16th round we were level once more. Eventually, our partner fought back and regained the lead at 9:8, only to lose it immediately, leaving us level again. After the next two rounds, SLAKE Team took a two-point lead, which was, however, taken away again, bringing the score to 11:11. Katixy won the match-deciding round but failed to capitalise on it, sending the match into extra time.
In the extra time, our partner got off to a disastrous start and had to fight back from 12–15 in the second half. Unfortunately, we failed to win even a single round, and the match ended with a 16:12 victory for Katixy. SLAKE were thus relegated to the losers’ bracket immediately after their first match.

Losers’ bracket match
Their first opponent in the losers’ bracket turned out to be VoFoxen, who had lost their match in the winners’ bracket 1–13 to Divergent. They offered little resistance to SLAKE either, and our partner progressed to the second round of the losers’ bracket, where they faced TF Talents.

The match against TF Talents was a very close contest, and on the de_anubis map, it was the finer details that decided the outcome in favour of one of the teams. Unfortunately, the balance ultimately tipped in favour of the international team (TF Talents), who won 13:10. Thus, another of our partners has secured a place in the last-chance bracket of the 3rd edition of the Galaxy Cup.

Who will SLAKE be playing next?
In the last-chance bracket, every match is a battle to see who will be eliminated from the tournament. The first match awaiting our partner in this do-or-die battle will be against Misstakes. They’re a lower-tier team, but they’re capable of springing a surprise, especially when their backs are against the wall. The date of this match is not yet known, but we’ll certainly be reporting on it when it takes place.
