After three matches in the ESEA Intermediate division, the VoFoxen team have a record of 1–2. We’ve already discussed the first of these matches in our quick round-up of all the teams in the division. However, this time we’re taking another look… We’ll examine how the team fared in the opening weeks of the competition and what this might bode for the rest of the season. Although the results didn’t always go their way, the team showed flashes of really solid play, which could bode well for their upcoming matches.
Three matches, three different stories
VoFoxen’s three matches so far have brought completely different emotions… From a hard-fought battle that went to several overtimes, through a technical victory, to a match in which their opponents demonstrated greater experience. Each of these matches told a slightly different story about the team’s start to the season.
VoFoxen [23:25]
GV Esports | Mirage
VoFoxen kicked off the ESEA Intermediate season with an incredibly evenly matched clash against GV Esports on the Mirage map. From the very first rounds, it was clear that neither side intended to let up. The game went point for point, with neither team able to build a clear lead. After a 6–6 draw in the first half and an identical score after the sides swapped sides, the match went into overtime.
That’s when the tension reached its peak… VoFoxen had their chances to close out the match, but a few crucial rounds slipped through their fingers by the narrowest of margins. Ultimately, it was GV Esports who kept their cool in the closing stages and secured a 23–25 victory after a series of extra rounds. Despite the defeat, it was a display of solid play and determination from the Foxes, who showed right from their first match that they can fight right to the very end.
VoFoxen [1:0] :de: IQ Gaming | walkover
The second match brought VoFoxen their first win of the season. Although not on the server, but at the green table… IQ Gaming were unable to field a full squad, meaning the match ended in a walkover. VoFoxen have thus added their first points to their tally, and the break between matches provides the perfect opportunity to analyse previous mistakes and find their rhythm ahead of the next challenge.
VoFoxen [9:13] 🇷🇸 Team ASD | Inferno
In the third match, VoFoxen faced Team ASD on the Inferno map. From the very start, the match was dictated by their opponents, who effectively capitalised on their experience and well-organised gameplay. Despite this, VoFoxen managed to hold their own, and a few well-played rounds in the first half allowed them to stay in contention with the score at 5:7.
After the sides switched, the team tried to find their rhythm and look for opportunities to stage a comeback, but Team ASD did not let their lead slip. Despite a few successful plays and moments where VoFoxen managed to catch their opponents off guard, the closing stages belonged to the more experienced side, who closed out the map with a score of 9–13.
Time for improvements and new challenges
Although a 1–2 record doesn’t look impressive, VoFoxen showed plenty of character and moments of truly good play in these matches. Their start to this season’s ESEA Intermediate has been a solid test for them, and the experience gained could pay dividends later in the competition. The key now will be to maintain consistency and translate those good spells into full matches. And in the coming days, VoFoxen face further challenges… The Foxes will take on 🇹🇷 Reality this Saturday, 18 October. In addition, a clash with :fi: Team Disrupt is scheduled for Tuesday, 21 October. Both matches could prove crucial for rebuilding their record and getting back to winning ways.
