However, as is often the case in CS, reality soon proved brutal. Despite a brilliant start, the next two matches proved to be a test from which they failed to emerge victorious. After three intense clashes, the Young Foxes had to concede defeat to their rivals. Thus, the VoFoxen Academy ends its participation in the tournament in the group stage with a 1–2 record, leaving behind a mixture of disappointment and material for analysis ahead of future tournaments.
The group stage — from a strong start to painful setbacks
Although VoFoxen Rising entered the tournament with energy and confidence, each successive match increasingly exposed the academy’s weaknesses. From a spectacular opening victory, through a closely fought battle, to the disappointing conclusion of their adventure. The group stage proved to be a tale of contrasts, of ambition and hard lessons.
VoFoxen Rising 13:3 Strzał z Bonia | Mirage
The Young Foxes started the tournament in style. From the very first minutes, Mirage looked as though it were their map. Full control of the tempo, confident decisions and no moments of hesitation. The 13:3 scoreline alone speaks volumes… VoFoxen Rising imposed a style of play to which Strzał z Bonia could find no answer. This match looked like a perfect display of the academy’s strength. The Young Foxes gave the impression of being well prepared both tactically and mentally, whilst their opponents had practically no chance to get into the match and find their rhythm. Such a one-sided victory was a clear signal to the rest of the group that VoFoxen had come to secure promotion.
VoFoxen Rising 9:13 ZEN Esport | Ancient
After their impressive victory on Mirage, the Young Foxes went into the second match with natural momentum, but Ancient quickly proved to be a brutal reality check. It is a map that offers no mercy, and ZEN Esports exploited this to the full. The match was a real wake-up call for VoFoxen Rising… Instead of the relaxed control seen in the first match, they found themselves having to fight for every inch of the map. Although the Young Foxes kept in touch for a long time and didn’t let their opponents build a significant lead, the finish went decisively ZEN’s way. A few crucial rounds slipped away at the worst possible moments. Thus, the 9:13 result not only dashed their hopes of a quick promotion but also significantly complicated the group standings.
VoFoxen Rising 5:13 Mollitiem | Ancient
After a single defeat, the Young Foxes still had a chance to turn the group stage around. Unfortunately for them, the decisive match was once again played on Ancient, which had already made its presence felt once and was not about to be any more forgiving this time either. From the very first rounds, Mollitiem imposed their game plan, quickly seizing the initiative and forcing VoFoxen to constantly play catch-up. Although the academy tried to find ways to regroup and get back into the match, their opponents’ lead only grew. A lack of foothold, problems breaking down the opposition and the pressure of the score took their toll. Ultimately, the 5–13 result sealed the Young Foxes’ exit from the Ground Games Cup.
Lessons for the future — valuable experience despite failing to progress
Although VoFoxen Rising failed to qualify from the group stage, their performance in the Ground Games Cup can hardly be called a wasted opportunity. The tournament highlighted both the academy’s strengths and the areas that require refinement. Particularly on maps such as Ancient. An impressive opening victory demonstrated their potential and ability to compete at a high level, but subsequent matches served as a reminder that stability and consistency are the foundation of long-term success.
If the Young Foxes draw the right conclusions, the Ground Games Cup could prove to be an important turning point for them. And the experience gained during this phase could be a valuable investment that pays off in future tournaments.
