APK #2 – Categories

We suspect that some of you will be looking to this article for answers regarding our recent issues with the superion.gg domain. Where did the idea to change the domain from superion.gg to superion.gg come from in the first place? We’ve mentioned before that we’d like to expand our activities further into the international scene, and the website would be available in two languages. That is precisely why we’ve changed the domain. The Polish version will be available at https://superion.gg, and the English version at https://superion.gg/en.

On the one hand, we could have kept the .pl domain, but for international users it would have looked a bit odd to land on a site with a Polish domain only to find the content in English. Previously, we’d solved this by having two sites: .pl and .com. However, over time, we realised that this approach no longer made sense for small projects like ours.

Managing two websites at once isn’t exactly the most difficult of tasks. That said, if you’ve been following the .com site, you may have noticed that it’s missing a few of the innovations we’ve introduced on the Polish site. This is one of the main reasons why we decided to merge our project. The second reason is perhaps even more important: for example, let’s say user X wants to read an article about their favourite team, which, let’s say, is from England. So they open the article, but see that there are more articles and more teams, and in this way, partners from Poland or other countries can gain new followers.

Any issues with the display of logos or the functionality of https://superion.gg will be resolved within the next dozen or so hours or 1–2 days. In short, we need to wait for the DNS propagation to complete and for our own redirect to take effect. This should resolve all issues relating to .pl. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Articles from our Polish partners will also be translated into English. As most of our work is currently focused on the main project – the mobile app – we anticipate that the website will only be 100% translated by 2026, under optimal circumstances.

Let’s return, however, to the main focus of this article: the mobile app. We previously mentioned that updates on the app’s development would be published weekly. As you can see, unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee this. Whilst we work on the app practically every day in our spare time, the range of other responsibilities involved in running a portal of this kind completely takes up any time we might otherwise have for writing articles.

Yesterday, a new donation was received on our zrzutka.pl fundraising page. It was from Gloris eSports, amounting to 43.65 zł, titled ‘For the development of the mobile app’. Thank you for all your support. At present, our website is run on a non-profit basis, and, like almost every e-sports venture in Poland, it doesn’t generate a profit, which is why we appreciate every zloty.

Right then… what about the app?

In our previous article (https://superion.gg/apk-1-widok-profilu/), we wrote about the changes to the profile view on our website. Whilst at the time we were referring to the profile view on mobile devices in a browser and on desktop devices, we’ve spent the last few days implementing this view in our app, although it’s slightly different. Due to issues with the .pl domain, profile pictures aren’t currently displaying correctly.

Minor changes to the article view + comments section

In addition to the profile view mentioned above, we’ve also added a comments section to the article view. At the moment, however, it hasn’t been 100% tested. We know that it correctly displays comments posted via a desktop or mobile device using a browser. The next step will likely be to test posting via the app, deleting posts, etc. However, to do this, we need to add a login and registration system, which we haven’t done yet.

Previously, the author’s username and the date appeared beneath the article title. Now, the article’s category is displayed in this space. Clicking on a category takes you to a subpage with articles from that category. We intend to do the same with tags in the future. The author’s profile view has been slightly modified. We’ve added social media links.

Category view

On the home page, users have access to three tabs in the bottom menu: Home, Categories and Favourites. Last weekend, we focused on the categories. Each category and subcategory displays the number of articles and is clickable.

Over the next few days, we’ll be working on implementing the login and registration system, adding tags and fixing current bugs.
