Gloris eSports after 10 matches in ESEA Intermediate

- -

ESEA Season 54 has only just begun, and we’re already approaching the end. We last reported on Gloris eSports’ progress in this league when they had played six matches. At that point, they had a 2–4 record and weren’t looking in great form, especially as they were one of the favourites to be promoted. Recently, however, they’ve found their form a bit, and their record doesn’t look too bad at the moment. How exactly did the last four matches go? Here they are…

A good chance to improve their record – Polska Gloris eSports vs :fi: Pesujakuivaus60

The first opponent featured in today’s article is the Finnish team Pesujakuivaus60 – their name is a bit of a mouthful, but is their gameplay just as tricky? Looking at them more closely, you can see that their ELO ratings on the Faceit platform differed quite significantly from Gloris’. From this, we can conclude that our partner in this clash is the favourite. Ancient was chosen as the map. Since Anubis was removed from the pool, Gloris eSports have probably played Ancient more often than any other map, and their performance on it is very strong. This match was no exception; it was dominated by our partner, who won 13–4. Thanks to this victory, they have, of course, improved their record to 3–4.

Things could only get better from there… – Polska Gloris eSports vs Francja average 30yo

Next, standing in the way of our partner’s bid to level the score was the average 30yo team. Players from France, a country where CS is quite widespread and there are quite a lot of players. This time, judging by the name, these were the more experienced players. Mirage was chosen as the map for this match; Gloris plays a lot on this map, just as they do on Ancient, but their results here were slightly worse. They started on the defensive side.

The pistol round went by quite quickly and our partner immediately took a 2–0 lead. The opponents didn’t give up and managed to draw level. They even managed to take the lead, but were quickly knocked off it. They managed to take the lead again, this time more decisively at 5–3, but Gloris had an answer to that too, so we saw another draw. The last two rounds of the first half were crucial, and our partner managed to win them, taking a 7–5 lead.

In the second half, the pistol round did not go Gloris’s way, and, as had been the case throughout the match, we saw the score level once more. Our opponents didn’t stop there and even managed to take the lead, but just as in the first half, they were quickly brought back down to earth. With the score at 8–8, it seemed we would continue to watch the match unfold round by round, just as it had been so far. However, our partner took matters into their own hands and completely dominated the second half, winning the match 13–8. Thanks to this, they have bounced back from a very poor record to a 4–4 record, which gives them hope of reaching the play-offs.

First time with a positive record? – Polska Gloris eSports vs Europa Hell Yeah

The next match was, of course, a huge opportunity for Gloris eSports, as a win would see them in the black for the first time this season. Mirage was chosen as the map for this clash for the second time in a row, where they had previously performed very well, particularly on the attacking side.

Our partner started on that side too and, thanks to winning the pistol round, took a 2–0 lead. The first full-vs-full round also went their way, as usual, extending their lead to 4–0. The first response came fairly quickly, but it was just a single round, meaning that Gloris could build up even more momentum. The end of the half, however, wasn’t the best, and although our partner held a 7–5 lead at half-time, there was a certain sense of dissatisfaction.

In the second half, we witnessed a rather unusual situation where the international team won the pistol round but lost the force round. This is quite normal, but in this instance they also managed to win the subsequent force round on their side, putting them 9–8 ahead. The rest of the match was also dominated by the EU team, which is slowly leading me to believe that the Mirage map is easier on the TT side. Returning to the facts, however, Gloris have once again slipped into negative territory and will once again have to fight their way out of it.

A present for a star without a star…

I’ve sort of covered all the matches already, but at the start of the article I mentioned four. The fourth was only due to take place on 30 August, but our rivals decided not to continue with the league. As a result, our partner has once again ended up with a level record, this time 5:5. The next matches will be absolutely crucial for them, as they will decide whether Gloris eSports will compete in the play-offs this season or whether they’ll have to settle for staying in the Intermediate division.

When will there be a chance to turn the record around?
