The first few days of the Immunity League are now behind us. We’re talking about the open qualifiers, where teams took to the servers ready to fight for more than just prestige. At stake was a ticket to the main tournament, exempting the winner from the entry fee. The competition was held in a single-elimination format, with BO1 matches right up to the final, which was played as a BO3. Additionally, if you want to keep up to date with the match results, you can do so via our live coverage.
Day one of the Immunity League qualifiers: fast-paced matches and the first controversies
The first day of the Immunity League open qualifiers delivered exactly what every Counter-Strike fan was expecting. There were dynamic matches, a few twists and turns and… the first controversies. The tournament was held on the ARRMY platform, and as many as 32 teams were eligible to compete, although not all slots were filled. Some teams therefore started with a so-called “bye”, whilst the rest jumped straight into action.
Already in the first round, there was a lot of buzz surrounding the match between GV Esports and NRQ, which ended in a one-sided 13-2 result. Not everyone was pleased with GV’s quick victory… Their opponents suggested that the rivals might be “banned”. As it turned out, however, the GameVibe team was completely clean, and all the commotion merely added spice to the opening of the qualifiers. In the same round, the match between Modern Players and RRISK, which ended 16-13, provided plenty of excitement. Although Modern ultimately progressed, it was already clear that both teams had the potential for more. As it later turned out, RRISK bounced back on the second day, reaching the final.
The second round brought even more excitement. The clash between Vandals and Lunacy NXT, which ended 13-11, was particularly noteworthy. Although Lunacy had a comfortable 11-5 lead, Vandals staged an impressive comeback. This ultimately led to a nail-biting finish, which Lunacy managed to close out.
The dust had barely settled from the earlier rounds when it was already time for the semi-finals. And there was no shortage of excitement there. NoSurenderGG defeated ZEN Esports 13-9 after a closely fought match. In the second clash, Modern Players maintained their excellent form, defeating PACZKANARESPIE 16-12. Both teams made it to the final, where their last and most difficult challenge awaited them: the match for a place in the main tournament.
A first final ending in a convincing victory?
The final of the first day of the open qualifiers left no doubt as to who was in the best form that day. From the very first rounds, Modern Players set their own pace, dominating on Nuke and closing out the map with a score of 13-1. Their rivals from NoSurenderGG put up a fight on Overpass, and although after a one-sided 13-1 scoreline it might have seemed that Modern Players would quickly finish the job, reality turned out to be different. The match was much more evenly contested. NoSurenderGG took the initiative at times, almost forcing overtime, or perhaps even a decider. Ultimately, however, Modern Players kept their cool in the crucial rounds, winning 13-9 and securing their ticket to the main tournament.
Day two of the Immunity League qualifiers dominated by TNC
The second day of the Immunity League open qualifiers saw lower attendance, though there was no shortage of excitement nonetheless. Only two matches were played in the first round. More specifically, the giants defeated VoFoxen Rising 13-8, whilst Lunacy NXT had to concede defeat to M0CZODOL, losing 5-13. The remaining teams enjoyed a quick progression thanks to byes, which significantly sped up the pace of the competition.
Things started to get much more interesting as the quarter-finals began. The clash between RRISK and Victoria Nostra was a real thriller… The excitement reached fever pitch, and the final score of 16:14 almost led to a second extra time. RRISK, however, emerged victorious from this encounter, showing character and composure at the decisive moments.
In the semi-finals, TNC, currently ranked 10th in Poland according to Cybersport, left no room for doubt, crushing Nisła Raków 13-1. In the second match, RRISK once again put up a fight, this time defeating Molliet 13-9 after a series of evenly matched exchanges and several clutch moments.
Second final: TNC dominates RRISK?
The final of the second day of the open qualifiers caught the attention of all the fans, and the clash between TNC and RRISK was certainly full of excitement. On the first map, Mirage, TNC set the pace from the very start, giving their opponents no chance and closing out the map with a 13-3 scoreline. It might have seemed that the second map would go just as easily, but Train proved to be far more demanding. RRISK tried to halt the favourites’ momentum, at times taking the initiative and winning several key rounds. Ultimately, however, TNC kept their cool at the decisive moments and secured a 13-10 victory, securing their coveted ticket to the main tournament.
What’s next in the Immunity League?
The Immunity League open qualifiers showed that competition on the Polish CS scene can be full of excitement and unpredictable twists. Both the first day, with Modern Players’ triumph, and the second, where TNC gave their rivals no chance, demonstrated the high standard of play and the determination of the teams fighting for a place in the main tournament.
