The weeks are passing, and the Arrmy tournament is entering its decisive phase. For many teams, there is now just one final match left to determine whether they will qualify. Today, we’re focusing on the Open division, where ViBe Gaming is fighting for its place in Rising. Following the start of the play-offs, which we covered in our previous article, it’s time to take a closer look at the next two fixtures. The competition in this final stretch promises to be truly exciting, but who will ViBe face in the do-or-die match?
ViBe is cruising through the play-offs
ViBe Gaming 2:0 Find Success
2x [1:0 | walkover]
That’s just how it goes in the Open division where, instead of fighting to the end, some teams give up whilst the competition is still underway. Even when promotion is almost within reach, some decide to withdraw from further competition. This is exactly what happened to Find Success, who forfeited the match, unfortunately for reasons unknown to me. However, ViBe thus secured a quick 2:0 win and could use the time saved for extra training, for example. Walkovers are, however, an integral part of this level of competition, though surely no team would turn down such an easy promotion.
ViBe Gaming 2:1 PolacyPL
13:8 | Dust 2
The second of the matches in question began on the classic Dust 2, a map that some love and others hate. It was ViBe Gaming’s pick, so their rivals, having the choice, decided to start on the counter-terrorist side. Despite a spirited fight, it was ViBe who proved why they feel so confident here. Although they conceded as many as eight rounds to their opponents, they controlled the match for the majority of the time. The finish, however, left little room for doubt, with a confident 13:8 victory securing the lead in the series. FaF1`q deserved special mention, finishing the map with 22 kills and just 11 deaths. It was his superb form that proved to be one of the key factors in ViBe’s victory.
4:13 | Nuke
The second map, Nuke to be precise, was supposed to be ViBe’s chance to wrap up the series quickly, but their rivals showed exactly why they had chosen it. Although ViBe started on the CT side, considered the easier one, their opponents dominated the match almost from the very first rounds. As a result, the team managed to snatch just four rounds and had to accept a crushing 4:13 defeat. It may not be a result the team will want to remember for long, but it certainly serves as a valuable lesson ahead of the next stages of the competition. Unfortunately, in such a one-sided match, it is difficult to find any positives, though Flownzera stood out, being the only player to finish the match in the black, recording 13 kills to 12 deaths.
13:10 | Mirage
The decisive map of the series, Mirage, certainly provided the excitement befitting a battle for progression. Both teams played with great caution, and neither was willing to give up even an inch of the map. Throughout the match, it was difficult to pick a clear favourite, but in the closing stages, it was ViBe who kept their cool and sealed the victory with a 13:10 score. The result clearly shows that it was no easy ride, especially compared to the first map. Ultimately, however, ViBe Gaming proved the better side, with FaF1`q once again playing a key role, finishing the match with an impressive tally of 25 kills to 12 deaths. Not far behind him was Kaikss with 22 frags, though he racked up 16 deaths himself.
Is Army Rising within reach?
After a tough but victorious series, ViBe Gaming proved that they can fight to the end in the playoffs. The team, having gone through both closely contested matches and a single quick walkover victory, has reached the final stage before advancing. On 25 August at 8.30 pm, ViBe will face The Baiters, a team that has made it through the playoffs… without playing a single match. This clash promises to be an extremely interesting showdown between two teams that have reached the same stage via completely different paths.
