We recently published an interview with the captain of the VoFoxen team. In it, he spoke, amongst other things, about the ESEA league, where they’re not doing well due to poor form. In our last article covering their matches in that very league, they finished with a 2–3 record, but now we have the results of two more matches and, unfortunately, things are looking much the same.
A chance to get back on track –
VoFoxen vs :uk: TPO Esports
Our partner’s next opponent is the British team TPO Esports. This is their debut in this league, most likely following the purchase of a slot, and they are faring much like VoFoxen. Overpass was chosen as the map for this clash; it looks as though, now that it’s in the pool, this map will be played frequently by our partner and will become something of a main for them.
In this match, they started on the attacking side and managed to take an early lead, going 2–0 up straight away. They also secured their first full round, extending their lead to 4–0. At this point, however, their opponents took a slight lead. They managed to win two rounds, depriving the VoFoxen players of their money and thereby ‘rallying’ to a 4–4 draw. They also managed to edge their way into a lead at half-time – fortunately not 8–4, but 7–5.
The pistol round, however, did not go our partner’s way, and the opponents pulled ahead to 9–5. Fortunately, our partner snapped out of it fairly quickly and managed to win a round, but unfortunately, it was only one. After that, the opponents simply restored their lead to its previous level. We saw this back-and-forth exchange of rounds a few more times, but unfortunately it led to match points for the British side. They didn’t hesitate to capitalise on them, and the match ended in a 7–13 defeat for the VoFoxen team. As a result, their record worsened further, standing at 2–4 at that point.
Time for a ‘rematch’ – VoFoxen vs MonKe
Our partner’s next opponent is the Ukrainian team MonKe. This is their second season in the league; last season they managed to reach the play-offs, though of course without advancing any further. This time the map is different, perhaps because Overpass was banned by MonKe during the veto. The map for this clash is Mirage, where VoFoxen also feel quite at home and are capable of winning. They started on the attacking side and went on the offensive straight away.
They failed to win the pistol round, but a strong force buy paid off, putting our partner 3–1 ahead. They had no intention of stopping there and managed to add rounds 2, 3 and 4 to their tally. Thanks to these, they took a 7–1 lead, though their opponents had no intention of letting up. They managed to win the second round, and two more towards the end of the first half, bringing the score to 8–4. In the second half, winning the pistol round quickly put our partner in match point territory, which he was quick to capitalise on. He didn’t manage it the first time round, but he certainly did on the second attempt, thereby winning the entire match 13–5.
When will there be another chance to get back on track?
