Sometimes it’s hard to believe that something which seemed like a permanent fixture on the scene can simply disappear. For years, Young Stars had been a constant presence in the background of most events, leagues and discussions, building its brand quietly but consistently. So when the announcement was made on 24 October that the organisation was suspending its activities, many fans and players were left in disbelief.
It is now impossible to pinpoint exactly when it all began. After all, “people don’t live long enough to remember the early days of Young Stars”. What is certain, however, is that over the years, YS has managed to nurture many talented players and become a permanent fixture on the Polish esports scene.
For us at Superion, this farewell is a special one. We’ve been working with Young Stars since November 2024, when they were even named our Partner of the Year. Since then, we’ve shared many moments together that will remain in our memories for a long time to come.
From young stars to an esports family
From the very beginning, Young Stars has focused on young, ambitious players… And not just in name, but out of genuine conviction. In a world where many organisations prioritise quick success, YS has consistently built its teams on the foundations of hard work, patience and trust. This approach was evident in every line-up that has passed through their ranks. For a long time, they operated two teams: Talents and Academy. Both squads developed in parallel, sometimes competing against each other in underground tournaments, but always under the same banner.
The most recent Talents line-up, comprising kuczu, jkb, Speeda, kyokujiN and patrikinho, represented Young Stars from March until early September this year. It was with this quintet that the organisation brought an important chapter in its history to a close. A team capable of springing surprises, they often emerged victorious from situations that looked hopeless. Although there was no shortage of difficult moments and changes along the way, this squad was a symbol of stability for many fans. Their farewell to YS was the moment when you could truly feel that an era had come to an end.
However, we didn’t have to wait long for the next chapter. Just two weeks later, Young Stars unveiled a new line-up, which took over as the main team. It featured players with the nicknames Jaco, Speeda, CortexDD, Neki and Quento. In practice, this was a refreshed core of the former academy, which perfectly reflected YS’s philosophy that, rather than seeking out ready-made stars, it is better to nurture your own. This move could be seen as a symbolic ‘coming full circle’. A project that began with young players ended exactly as it had begun… with young players in the leading roles. Only this time, they were no longer rookies, but fully-fledged representatives of the organisation they had helped to shape.
The Young Stars’ greatest moments
Although Young Stars never measured its worth solely in trophies and statistics, over the years it has amassed some truly impressive achievements that are impossible to forget. Perhaps the greatest success during our time together was their victory in the second season of the Invictus League. This triumph not only brought them recognition but also earned them respect amongst other teams.
Shortly afterwards came the Dreamedup Cup final, one of the few offline tournaments on the Polish scene. Finishing second in such an event is certainly a source of pride. All the more so because, for many players, it was their first experience of playing in LAN conditions. Without the comforts of home, with new kit and a completely different atmosphere. Despite the stress and pressure, Young Stars performed brilliantly, showing that they can keep a cool head even away from the server. It was definitely the sort of moment that made everyone think, “maybe there really is something in this after all”.
However, the story doesn’t end with these successes. The team were promoted to the Main division in ESEA’s 51st season, which in itself is a considerable achievement, given the competition. In the top division, ARRMY regularly featured among the frontrunners for several seasons, finishing the season in 3rd or 4th place. Perhaps without a win, but always with their heads held high.
Young Stars bid farewell to the scene (for now?)
It’s hard to predict today what will happen next with the Young Stars project. However, if there’s one thing we can say with complete certainty, it’s that their story isn’t ending here. It’s simply taking a short break… And if the ‘young stars’ are ever to return to the scene, it will probably be when no one is expecting it. For us here at the editorial office, this also marks a farewell to one of our longest-standing partners… A team with whom working together has always been a pure pleasure. And although it’s a shame to say goodbye, we believe we’ll see the YS logo on the servers more than once. Because, after all, as they’ve shown over these 3.5 years… You can’t extinguish something that shines with passion.
