Lunacy Gaming bids farewell to ESEA Entry. Their hard-fought run in the play-offs has come to an end

- -

Lunacy Gaming have concluded their run in the ESEA Entry play-offs after several challenging and closely fought matches. The team secured their place in the knockout stage thanks to a very solid 10–4 record achieved during the regular season. This result confirmed the team’s strong form throughout the competition and saw them join the ranks of the teams vying for the title in the Entry division.

Simply qualifying for the play-offs could be considered a significant step for Lunacy Gaming. For many weeks, the team consistently picked up points and managed to maintain a steady level of form against a variety of opponents. Thanks to this, the team earned a place in the knockout stage, where every subsequent match carried far greater significance. Although Lunacy Gaming ultimately failed to progress to the later stages of the play-offs, the team put in a strong performance and left a solid impression.

A difficult start to the play-offs and the battle in the upper bracket

Lunacy Gaming’s playoff journey began rather unusually… as their first opponent, EGOIST, forfeited the match. As a result, the Polish side advanced to the next round of the upper bracket without playing an official match. Such a start to the knockout stage could be viewed in two ways. On the one hand, Lunacy Gaming received a free pass and could prepare more calmly for the rest of the tournament. On the other hand, however, not having played a match also meant they were unable to get into the right competitive rhythm right from the start of the play-offs.

The first real test for the team turned out to be their clash against Critical. Right from the start of the series, it was clear that both teams were of a very similar standard, and virtually every map promised to be an extremely evenly matched contest. Mirage ended in a 11–13 victory for Critical. For most of the match, neither team was able to establish a clear lead, and the final result was decided by individual rounds played in the closing stages of the map.

Lunacy Gaming, however, responded very quickly on Dust 2. The second map once again provided a closely contested match, and for a long time it was difficult to say which team was in control. This time, however, the Polish side coped better at crucial moments and won 13–11, taking the series to the decisive Anubis. The results of the first two maps alone suggested that the series would only be decided after a very hard-fought battle.

And that is exactly how the third map played out. Anubis proved to be the most thrilling part of the entire match, as regular time was not enough to decide the winner. Both teams traded rounds for a long time, even in overtime, and the gap between them remained minimal. Ultimately, after a few extra rounds, Critical closed out the map with a score of 17–19 and won the series 1–2, sending Lunacy Gaming down to the lower bracket. Despite the defeat, the Polish side left a very good impression, demonstrating that they can compete on equal terms even in extremely demanding playoff matches.

A comfortable victory in the lower bracket and the end of the fight for promotion

After dropping into the lower bracket, Lunacy Gaming remained in the hunt for further progression and had to quickly regroup following an extremely demanding match against Critical. The Polish team’s next opponent was Shells of Victory. However, the series itself went much better from the outset than their previous match in the upper bracket. This time, Lunacy Gaming looked far more confident, and from the very first rounds, the team was able to impose its own pace on its opponents.

On Mirage, the Polish team took control of the map relatively quickly and began to build a lead. Shells of Victory tried at times to get back into the match and won a few rounds. However, Lunacy Gaming maintained full control of the situation for the majority of the match. Ultimately, Mirage ended with a score of 13–6, which was by far the most one-sided map Lunacy had played throughout the entire play-offs.

Dust2 was also dictated by the Polish side. Although this time their opponents managed to stay in the running for a little longer, Lunacy Gaming continued to prove themselves the more consistent team, performing better in the match’s crucial moments. The team consistently maintained their lead and ultimately closed out the second map with a score of 13–8, thereby securing a 2–0 victory and progression to the next round of the lower bracket. Following a very closely fought series against Critical, this was a much smoother ride for Lunacy Gaming.

In their next match, the Polish team faced AERIS. Although the series ended in a 0–2 defeat for Lunacy Gaming, the scores on each map show that the match was far more evenly contested than the final result might suggest. On Dust 2, Lunacy stayed in the game for a long time and fought right until the very end to turn the map around. However, AERIS ultimately won 11–13 and took the lead in the series. The second map was played on Nuke, where there were once again plenty of closely contested moments. Their opponents, however, made better use of the crucial moments of the match and closed out the map with a score of 9–13, eliminating Lunacy Gaming from the ESEA Entry play-offs.

A solid season for Lunacy Gaming

Although Lunacy Gaming’s playoff run ended sooner than the team might have expected, the season as a whole can be viewed positively. Their 10–4 record in the regular season was a very good result and saw the team among those competing for the title in the ESEA Entry.

The play-offs themselves also showed that Lunacy Gaming were capable of competing against tough opponents. The series against Critical, in particular, proved that the team were able to put up a very even fight even in long and demanding matches. The team also showed character after dropping into the lower bracket, where they managed to confidently defeat Shells of Victory and keep their hopes of progressing alive.

Ultimately, Lunacy Gaming’s run came to an end in their match against AERIS… However, their overall performance left a positive impression. For the team, this could prove to be a valuable experience and a solid foundation for future seasons and further appearances in ESEA competitions.
