The Underground Rivals tournament gave spectators everything one could hope for from a fast-paced competition. From upsets and one-sided dominations to thrilling finishes and individual displays of skill. A total of 60 matches were played across four groups, some of which ended in walkovers… These, in turn, also influenced the standings and the pace of the competition, opening the way for some teams to secure easier points, whilst depriving others of the chance to showcase their full potential. Thus, the top eight teams advanced to the knockout stage, where there was virtually no margin for error and the pressure mounted with every successive round. The battle for the final was full of twists and turns, and several players particularly earned their status as stars of the tournament. Ultimately, the champions were only decided in the decider, which brought the competition to a truly thrilling close. In the summary below, we’ll revisit certain stages of the tournament… From the group stage, through the thrilling play-offs, right up to the grand final, which crowned the UG Rivals champion.
Group stage clashes – the start of the journey to the Underground Rivals championship
The Underground Rivals group stage has already been partially covered in our previous article, where we looked at the most interesting matches and the first signs of form from the individual teams. As part of our full tournament recap, we return to this stage to briefly remind you of how the competition unfolded across the four groups and which teams secured their place in the knockout phase, kicking off the real battle for the championship.
Group A – three teams level on 12 points
The first group was one of the most interesting, not because it had a surprise leader, but because as many as three teams were fighting for first place right up to the final match. Anka’s Goats, ViNo and Ignis Five scored regularly, and each had their moment of dominance. The Goats made their presence felt most loudly, thrashing their rivals 13–1 on one occasion and 13–3 on another. Meanwhile, Victoria shone with consistency, and Ignis Five with strong performances in key matches.
Further down the table, it was rather chaotic… 404 managed to spring a surprise in individual matches, whilst Carpathian Roja struggled to find form throughout the stage. Unfortunately, Fairus Youngsters found it difficult to make an impact in any match.

Group B – Tuga Clan out of reach
If any group had one undisputed dominant force, it was Group B. Tuga Clan didn’t just win all their matches… They crushed their opponents, often wrapping up games in a matter of minutes. With a +36 goal difference, they were one of the two most devastating teams of the entire group stage. Behind them, Lunacy rose to the challenge, but they simply lacked that ‘certain something’ compared to Tuga. Further down the table, the competition was very tight, and the differences between Fairus, Knagi, NPK and Vision were mainly decided in head-to-head matches.

Group C – Perun and GV in a league of their own
In Group C, the most interesting aspect was just how far Perun and Jonixal pulled away from the rest. Both teams finished the group stage on 15 points, with the differences coming down to the finer details. Unfortunately, Golden 5 had their moments, particularly in matches against teams at the bottom of the table, but failed to pose a real threat to the top. NPK 2, VYCE and Visionary, meanwhile, struggled with consistency, and walkovers further levelled the playing field.

Group D – Moczodol’s clean sweep and Mivori’s strong start
Group D was definitely the most ‘tournament-like’ in character… Lots of excitement, extra time, turning points and line-ups that could suddenly spring into life. In first place, of course, was Moczodol, who stormed through the group stage and didn’t lose a single match in any of their five fixtures. A +42 goal difference is impressive and shows that this team came for more than just a place in the knockout stages. Mivori, on the other hand, played with maturity, at times very impressively, but acted more as a runner-up than a genuine contender for first place. The middle of the table was fiercely contested: Spectra and Pirtus.vro had their moments, one extra time, one strong victory… But a lack of consistency prevented them from challenging for more.

Underground Rivals knockout stage – when there’s no room for error
After the group stage concluded, the tournament’s top eight entered the battle for the championship. From the outset, the play-offs set a different pace to the group stage… There was no longer any room for an off day, and every match meant either a ticket through to the next round or the end of dreams of the title. Some of the favourites fell surprisingly quickly, other teams only really got going now, and the entire bracket unfolded into a series of truly spectacular clashes.
Quarter-finals
Anka’s Goats 1:2 Mivori
The first quarter-final clash immediately produced a story that will be talked about for a long time to come. Koziołki Anki got off to a flying start, with the first map clearly going their way and it looking as though they were in control. However, Mivori not only weathered this strong start but, from the second map onwards, began to gradually seize the initiative. The decisive clash was a completely different spectacle… A thoroughly even, tense affair in which both teams had a real chance to close out the series in their favour. Mivori, however, proved more effective at the crucial moments and it was they who progressed, eliminating a team that many had even tipped for a medal.
Tuga Clan 0:2 Jonixal Esports
The second quarter-final clash turned out to be arguably the biggest surprise of the entire round. Tuga Clan, the team that had gone through the group stage without a single defeat, was completely shut out by Jonixal. Instead of the evenly matched series one might have expected given the form of both teams, we witnessed a one-sided contest in which Jonixal was in complete control from start to finish. Both maps followed a similar pattern… Jonixal started the matches confidently, quickly gained the upper hand and didn’t allow Tuga any extended scoring runs. The result? One of the most decisive 0-2 victories of the entire knockout stage and a very strong signal that Jonixal had come for more than just a semi-final spot.
Victoria Nostra 2:0 Moczodol
The next quarter-final clash produced a major upset. Moczodol, the absolute dominator of the group stage, was unable to replicate that form. The first map was dominated by ViNo, who quickly took the lead and confidently closed out the rounds in their favour. The second map, however, was a completely different story… It was very evenly matched and full of excitement, with the result only decided in overtime. Moczodol still had a chance to extend the series, but ViNo kept their cool at crucial moments and sealed the match in their favour, advancing to the semi-finals with a clean sweep of victories in this round.
Lunacy Gaming 2:0 Perun
The final quarter-final clash showed that Perun would not give up easily, despite having been in almost perfect form in the group stage. Despite the evenly matched and tense maps, Lunacy Gaming maintained the upper hand. Perun had their moments and fought until the end, but it was Lunacy who effectively closed out both maps and advanced to the semi-finals, demonstrating maturity and stability at crucial moments.
Semi-finals
Mivori 0:2 Jonixal Esports
In the semi-finals, Jonixal continued their excellent form, but the first map was no walk in the park… It only ended after overtime, with Mivori coming close to victory on several occasions. The second map, however, was a completely different story. Jonixal ran riot over their opponents, quickly gaining the upper hand and giving Mivori no real chance to turn the series around. Ultimately, Jonixal advanced to the grand final with a clean sweep of victories in this round, demonstrating that they can both withstand the pressure of closely contested matches and completely dominate their opponents.
Victoria Nostra 2:0 Lunacy Gaming
In the second semi-final, ViNo faced Lunacy in a very evenly matched contest. Both maps were full of tension and moments where either team could have tipped the balance in their favour. Ultimately, however, it was Victoria Nostra who came out on top in the crucial encounters, maintaining their advantage at decisive moments and closing out the series 2-0. This victory secured them a place in the final and demonstrated that they can cope in difficult, hard-fought matches, even against evenly matched opponents.
Third-place play-off
Mivori 0–2 Lunacy Gaming
In the third-place play-off, Lunacy quickly recovered from their semi-final defeat and comfortably beat Mivori 0–2. Mivori failed to find a way to turn the series around, and Lunacy finished the tournament on the podium, demonstrating maturity and effectiveness in the decisive clash.
Grand Final
Jonixal Esports 2:1 Victoria Nostra
The Underground Rivals final went the full three maps and promised to be a thrilling spectacle from the very start. The first map was firmly in ViNo’s favour, as they controlled the flow of the rounds and wrapped it up in a fairly one-sided fashion, signalling that they were ready to fight for the championship. The second map, however, brought a shift in momentum. Jonixal fought their way back into the game, gradually making up the deficit and levelling the series. Both teams had their moments, and every round was crucial to the outcome of the match.
The decisive third map was equally tight and full of tension. Victoria Nostra tried to fight until the very end, but ultimately it was Jonixal Esports who proved more effective, closing out the series 2-1, claiming the tournament title and finishing the play-offs in impressive style.
The conclusion of Underground Rivals – a tournament that showcased the true strength of the scene
Underground Rivals proved just how evenly matched and unpredictable competition in this scene can be. From a group stage full of twists and turns, through intense play-offs, right to the final that crowned a new champion. Every stage of the tournament provided viewers with a solid dose of excitement. Although the trophy went to Jonixal Esports, the entire tournament showed that many teams have the potential to compete for the top honours in the future. Underground Rivals thus concludes not only as another edition of the competition, but also as a preview of what may lie ahead in the coming months.
