Underground Rivals: The top eight are in the running for the title

After several weeks of thrilling competition, the group stage of the Underground Rivals tournament has come to an end. The organisers from Underground CS2 Polska have proven that they can create a unique esports atmosphere and bring the Counter-Strike community together. In our last article, we outlined the group draw and the opening matches, which looked set to be incredibly exciting. Now, however, the excitement is reaching a whole new level, as it’s time for the knockout stage, in which the top eight teams will battle it out for victory and the top prize of 500 zł.

Before we move on to analysing the quarter-finals, however, it’s worth recalling how the competition unfolded in each group. There was no shortage of dramatic twists, unexpected results and situations where advancement was decided by literally a single round. As a result, the level of excitement was incredibly high, and spectators were able to experience the true spirit of competition.

In Group A, the battle for qualification went down to the wire, with the tension reaching fever pitch. Anka’s Goats secured top spot, having displayed consistent and assured form from the outset. Victoria Nostra, meanwhile, were the second team to qualify for the play-offs.

However, this was no ordinary contest, as no fewer than three teams finished the group stage with a 4–1 record, and qualification was decided by the round difference. It was Victoria Nostra who had a record eight rounds better than Ignis Five, securing them the coveted second place. You could say that +8 rounds is quite a lot, but in this group every point was worth its weight in gold. As a result, the final stages of the group stage became incredibly tight. A 4–1 record, which normally guarantees a safe passage through, proved insufficient here. This shows just how evenly matched this group was and what a high standard all the teams displayed.

The final standings in Group A are as follows:

• 1# Anka’s Goats — 4–1 / 12 points
• 2# Victoria Nostra — 4–1 / 12 points
• 3# Ignis Five — 4–1 / 12 points
• 4# 404 — 2–3 / 6 points
• 5# Carpathian Roja — 1–4 / 3 points
• 6# Fairus Youngsters — 0–5 / 0 points

Meanwhile, in Group B, the situation was completely different. Tuga Clan dictated the pace of the game from the very start and left no doubt as to who the favourites were. The team finished the group stage with a perfect 5–0 record, securing first place comfortably. Their style was well-organised and consistent, and their round difference of +36 best illustrates their advantage over their rivals.

Second place went to Lunacy Gaming, who lost only to the group leaders. Despite this single defeat, the team were in very good form and finished the group stage with a round difference of +26, which was more than enough to secure their progression. It is worth mentioning, however, Team Fairus, who tried to turn the tables in the closing stages. Unfortunately, they lost two crucial matches, which ultimately cost them their chance of progression. So there were no surprises here – the favourites confidently did what was required of them.

The final standings in Group B are as follows:

• 2# Lunacy Gaming — 4–1 / 12 points
• 3# Team Fairus — 3–2 / 9 points
• 4# Knagi Niebisza — 1–4 / 3 points
• 5# NPK Esport — 1–4 / 3 points
• 6# Vision Esport — 1–4 / 3 points

Group C, on the other hand, bore some resemblance to the events in Group B. Team Perun controlled the situation from the outset and, thanks to excellent game organisation and team chemistry, dominated their rivals. Their form was consistent, which saw them finish top of the group and secure their place in the next round.

Close behind them was Jonixal Team, who lost only to the group leaders. It was these two teams that displayed the most consistent form, earning them a well-deserved place in the knockout stage. Golden 5, despite putting up a spirited fight, had to concede defeat to their opponents and finished the competition in third place. As a result, their tournament run came to an end, although they put in a very strong performance.

The final standings in Group C are as follows:

• 2# Jonixal Team — 4–1 / 12 points
• 3# Golden 5— 3–2 / 9 points
• 4# VYCE CLAN — 2–3 / 6 points
• 5# NPK Esport 2 — 1–4 / 3 points
• 6# Visionary — 0–5 / 0 points

The final group, Group D, also provided plenty of excitement. Moczodol put on a masterclass, winning all their matches and confirming their aspirations for the title. Their play was dynamic and well-thought-out, enabling the team to secure first place with confidence.

Second place went to Mivori, who lost only to the group leaders but won their other matches without much trouble. What’s more, both teams showed that they can play not only effectively but also in a spectacular manner. The other teams, despite their best efforts, were unable to match their standard. As a result, it is Moczodol and Mivori who have progressed to the Underground Rivals quarter-finals.

Now that the group stage is over, we know the full play-off bracket. Here are the quarter-final match-ups:

• Koziołki Anki vs Mivori
• Tuga Clan vs Jonixal Team
• Victoria Nostra vs Moczodol
• Lunacy Gaming vs Team Perun

Each of these matches promises to be incredibly exciting. On the one hand, we have the favourites looking to cement their dominance; on the other, teams ready to spring a surprise. There’s no room for error now, as every map and every round could decide whether a team progresses or is knocked out.

The Underground Rivals knockout stage will last around two weeks, and the dates for individual matches will be set by the team captains. The organisers are committed to ensuring the competition runs smoothly and fairly, which is why they are flexibly adapting the schedule to suit the players’ availability.

All play-off matches will be streamed on the official Underground CS2 Polska Twitch channel, and recordings will be uploaded to YouTube once the matches have finished. This means that fans who are unable to watch the matches live will have the chance to catch up on all the action at any time.

What’s more, the organisers are actively managing their social media channels, where they regularly post updates on upcoming matches, results and highlights from the teams’ performances in Underground Rivals. The group stage showed that the standard in Underground Rivals is truly high. Each group had its own stories and surprises, and some teams were knocked out despite excellent results. Now, however, it’s all starting afresh. In the knockout stage, there’s no longer any margin for error, so every decision and every round takes on even greater significance.

We have two weeks ahead of us packed with excitement, incredible action and esports competition. Who will claim the title and the 500 zł prize? Will the favourites maintain their form, or might we see an upset? One thing is certain – Underground CS2 Polska is proving that it can organise tournaments with passion and heart.
