We recently reported on how VoFoxen fared in the opening rounds of the 54th ESEA Entry season. After their first three matches, they had a rather disappointing 1:2 record, which they needed to make up for in subsequent matches. Did they manage to do so? Did they get back on track? Here are the answers…
A chance to wipe the slate clean – VoFoxen vs FChrza
Their first opponent in the last two matches was the Finnish team FChrza. This is their first season in the Entry League, and they went into this clash with a record the opposite of ours – 2:1. However, VoFoxen had the advantage that their opponents were fielding a stand-in player who was level 9. The map was Nuke, where both teams displayed excellent fighting spirit and tenacity. However, there could only be one winner, and in this clash it was the Scandinavian side. It ended with a score of 13–9, pushing our partner’s record even further down to 1–3.
The start of a comeback? – VoFoxen vs Surge
After the storm, the sun always comes out. The only question is when, because the longer this slump persists, the harder it will be to get back on track. The next match, of course, presented an opportunity to do just that. Their opponents this time were an international team with a predominantly British line-up. The most interesting map choice was Overpass, which had recently been added to the ESEA map pool. Perhaps VoFoxen had spotted the potential for victory on this map. After the knife round, they opted to start on the defending side, where they sought to dominate from the outset. They managed to win the pistol round and, with it, the subsequent anti-eco round. The momentum continued and, thanks to winning rounds on full-buy, our team deprived their opponents of funds. This allowed them to easily build a lead of as much as 5–0. However, once their opponents had money, they became dangerous. They proved this by winning a round from 1–5 down. Despite this, VoFoxen weren’t paralysed by fear; instead, their confidence in winning rounds grew. They added another two rounds to their tally and secured their lead at the end of the first half. Their opponents tried to turn things round, but apart from winning one more round, it came to nothing. The first half ended with a massive 10–2 lead for our partner, and it seemed that finishing the match off in the second half would be a mere formality.
However, things didn’t get off to a dream start after the sides switched. Having lost the pistol round, they were forced to play a round with limited equipment. Yet once they managed to take to the map with a full loadout, they left no room for doubt. They won the match 13–4 and broke their losing streak.
Who will they be up against next?
