As we mentioned in our previous article, the group stage of the Feather Cup comes to an end today. The current standings make it clear which teams will be progressing to the next round. Interestingly, Gloris eSports will be making it through not once, but twice. Both the organisation’s main squad and its academy have secured promotion. The main squad sailed through the group stage almost effortlessly, winning four matches in a row and securing their place in the next round even before the final matchday.
A confident run through the group stage
Gloris eSports’ main squad finished the group stage with a near-perfect record. Four wins, zero defeats and a comfortable qualification for the next round. Although on paper this looks like the result of a superb run of form, in reality Gloris only had to fight once. Their match against Dywanika ended in a comfortable 13–5 victory on the Anubis map. And their style of play and dominance in the rounds showed that the team was well prepared for the competition, even if they didn’t actually have to prove it time and again.
The remaining matches in Group C ended in walkovers in Gloris’s favour, which merely sped up the formalities surrounding their qualification. The situation in the group was such that both Gloris eSports and their last potential rival had already secured qualification. As a result, the match was not played. Although the lack of more matches played does not give a complete picture of the team’s form, one thing is certain: Gloris eSports have confidently progressed through the first phase and can look forward to the upcoming play-offs with optimism.
Gloris eSports Academy battles for promotion
In Group D, the competition looked completely different to that of the main squad. The Gloris eSports Academy had to face tough opponents and played all their matches on the server, without any walkovers. As a result, their results reflect the team’s true form and standard as they strive to make their mark in the tournament.
Gloris AC put in a strong performance, winning two out of three matches. In their first match, they defeated X-Nation AC 16–12 on the Anubis map. This was a crucial step towards staying among the group’s top teams. Another success was their 13–9 victory over X-Nation’s main squad, also on Anubis. This match only served to confirm that the academy is capable of competing at a high level.
Gloris AC’s only defeat came against Horizon Youngsters, losing 7–13 on the Ancient map. Despite this, the result does not rule out their chances. Thanks to some solid wins, the academy can already be confident of progressing to the next round of the Feather Cup. The team has proven it has potential and will certainly be keen to put in an even better performance in the play-offs.
What can we expect next?
Both the first team and the Gloris eSports academy have shown that they are ready for the next challenges. They have successfully progressed from the Feather Cup group stage. Now they face decisive clashes in the play-offs, where the level of competition will rise significantly, and any mistake could cost them their place in the tournament.
Gloris AC’s first opponents are likely to be Lunacy Gaming, whilst the main squad will face Ananaski. Of course, this is assuming the match-up system follows a predictable and formulaic pattern. For example, if the top team from Group A were to face the second-placed team from Group B, that would be the most likely scenario. However, it is also possible that the remaining match-ups will be decided by a draw, and we’ll find out the details tomorrow when the organisers officially announce the play-off schedule.
Fans can therefore look forward to some thrilling matches and see how both teams fare at this higher level. Gloris eSports now has a great opportunity to prove their worth and compete for the top honours. We’ll be eagerly following their progress in the Feather Cup.
