DR Esports is heading straight for the ARRMA play-offs

- -

DR Esports is probably the team most keen to wrap up the ARRMY Open group stage as quickly as possible. This doesn’t always translate into good results, but DR have got off to a flying start this season, as my ‘editorial colleague’ wrote about, and you can read the full article via this link.

Since then, DR Esports have played three matches, and today we’ll be looking at whether it’s worth rushing things, or whether it’s better to schedule matches for later dates and have more time to prepare.

Straight ahead at the roundabout

If you don’t have a driving licence yet and will be driving with an ‘L’ plate in the future whilst studying for your licence, and have ever wondered which way to go at a roundabout. The solution to your problem comes from DR Esports’ opponent in Round 3 of the ARRMY Open S13, whose team is called “Straight Through the Roundabout”. For them, however, not everything was as straightforward as it seems. The match was played on the Anubis map, which is known for favouring the attacking side. Terrorists often manage to win 8 rounds, and a 7–5 result in favour of the attacking side isn’t always seen as a positive outcome. Before I reveal the full result, it’s worth looking at the individual statistics. When I quote these, it’s often the case that no one stands out; the whole team plays consistently. Not this time, though: in the DR Esports squad, there was a star in this match who shone brighter than the rest. I’m talking about “9zy” (22/13), who racked up a rating of 1.69. By comparison, the second-best DR player in these qualifiers had a rating of 18. This just goes to show how much 9zy contributed to the victory, although, to be honest, judging by the result, it’s clear that the opposition were at least a class below anyway. The match ended in a 13–5 victory for DR Esports. b

After going straight at the roundabout, DR Esports faced off against MesianeNaCinki. To give you an idea of just how serious this clash was, you have to imagine that their opponent had the mighty, late Warmianin – complete with a kebab – as his profile picture.

The mighty Warmianin and his kebab

Moving on, however, to the match itself, which took place yesterday, the map was Anubis, for a change. Starting with individual performances, $TFU from the opposing team certainly deserves a mention for his work on the map. He secured 23 kills whilst dying 13 times, giving him a rating of 1.77. Ultimately, DR Esports suffered their first defeat in the group stage of this year’s season, so it’s all the more worth praising the aforementioned player, who proved to be a key figure. Especially as the match ended with a score of 10–13. It seems our partner had some technical issues, as the statistics for one player are missing – unless, of course, it’s a problem with ARRMY.

My keyboard’s on the blink

From typing those difficult team names. DR Esports ended yesterday’s action with a match against “ZamętZaMieszki”. This time, the match was played on Nuke, which is a first for DR this season. After five rounds, they’d played on Anubis four times and this was their first time on Nuke, in Round 5. Did it pay off? It’s hard to say how their performance on Anubis would have looked, but we can conclude that DR Esports doesn’t seem any less prepared on Nuke than on Anubis – at least judging by the result. The whole team played as one, consistently. Well, perhaps apart from one player, but he’s probably the captain, so we can let him off the hook this time. Ultimately, the scoreboard showed a one-sided result in favour of our partner, who won 13–3.

After five rounds, DR Esports have a 4-1 record and a round difference of +31, which places them 29th in the ARRMY Open S13 group stage table. DR Esports’ next match is coming up soon, although we don’t know exactly when. The date of the match has not yet been set, but we know it will take place sometime between 10 and 16 July. However, it seems that DR Esports’ next match could be a fixture in the Feather Cup T-1, which we are covering:

We’re probably the only outlet where you can follow the results of this tournament more or less in real time. The results and schedule are updated every day at 5.00 pm, 6.00 pm, 7.00 pm, 8.00 pm, 9.00 pm, 10.00 pm, 11.00 pm and occasionally at midnight. We hope that at least some captains will respect their own and our time and won’t schedule matches for midnight.

Congratulations to DR Esports on their strong form in the group stage of ARRMY Open S13, although it seems that the real tests for these players lie ahead in our partner’s tournament, where they’ll face teams such as FragsEasy, Excurity Gaming, Spectra E-sports, Dywanika and the well-known Gloris eSports.
