Venom Vipers after four consecutive matches in ESEA Open10

- -

The 53rd ESEA season kicked off recently, and we’re already nearing the halfway point. Venom Vipers got off to a flying start this season, with two wins (more on that HERE). We now have the results of the next four matches, and the record doesn’t look quite so rosy anymore.

Our partner’s third match of the season was against the German team DieBesessenen. The match took place on the de_dust 2 map, which is very evenly balanced in terms of either side’s advantage. This often provides the perfect conditions for long and demanding matches that go to extra time. We saw a similar scenario this time too, as the match did not end within regulation time but only after extra time. The opponents managed to secure victory, which meant the Venom Vipers suffered their first defeat of the season.

Next up was a match against a Polish team called 7ty2. However, these Poles were far below our partner’s individual standard, so they didn’t pose much of a problem. The map turned out to be de_anubis this time, where even a much weaker team can spring a surprise. This time, however, there was no such surprise, as the match ended in a 13:7 victory for the Vipers, giving them their third win of the season.

This was the fifth match played against a Polish team, this time called Anxis, but once again we saw the de_anubis map. These opponents didn’t look particularly strong individually either, yet they still managed to spring quite a surprise. The match was evenly contested, but at a certain point the Anxis team found their form and clinched the match by the skin of their teeth, winning 13:11. As a result, the Vipers had only one more win than losses, which was not a good situation for them.

However, the situation was not set to improve after the next match, which was now being played not against the Poles, but against the international team brokeguys, who had recently lost the organisation they had been playing for as PCS Academy. The opponents had changed, but the map remained the same – de_anubis. This presented a perfect opportunity to break the losing streak on this map and extend their lead over the neutral record. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out; the opponents were the better players individually and made that abundantly clear, winning 13–8 and thereby pushing Venom Vipers down to an unwanted 3–3 record.

Here are our partner’s next opponents as they battle to return to a winning record:

  • vs 🇷🇺 elysium, Monday 28 April, 7.30 pm
  • vs 🇪🇺 GamingPenguins, Wednesday 30 April, 8.30 pm
